Overview
Rautjärvi is a beautiful small town at the Eastern Finland. With plenty of forests and Simpelejärvi on one side and river Hiitolanjoki on the other, Rautjärvi is place with natural beauty and relaxing atmosphere. There are good chances for hiking in Haukkavuori, fishing in Simpelejärvi and Hiitolanjoki and cycling in Simpele region. There is also an active local soccer team and a team for athletes. In the winter there is a good ski trail network, possibilities for ice skating and a small ski slop.
Rautjärvi can be accessed by train and by bus.
Rautjärvi upper secondary high school offers accomodation for foreign students free of charge. Appartments are shared units for 2-3 students with private bedrooms, a shared kitchen and a shared bathroom. There is a 5 minute walk from the appartments to the school. The bus stop is right next to the appartments and the train station is a 20 minute walk away.
Programme structure
Studies are usually carried out in 3 years. The academic year starts in August and ends at the beginning of June. There are a few holidays during the academic year.
The studies consist of national compulsory and elective studies and optional courses of Rautjärven lukio. Studies can be found on our website. Please remember to return a course selection form! If you need any assistance in filling out the form, please contact the guidance counsellor.
At the end of their studies, students pick at least 5 subjects for matriculation examination. The guidance counsellor will help with study plans.
Career opportunities
Upper secondary high school offers general education and gives skills and qualification for applying to Finnish universities. Our alumnies continue their studies for example in Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), University of Eastern Finland, Tampere University and University of Helsinki. Popular studies are business, chemistry, education, medical science etc. – the choice is yours!
