Siikajoki High School
Welcome to Siikajoki High School! Our school, located in the charming Ruukki village, offers a quality high school education surrounded by nature in the Siikajokilaakso area. Built in 2016, our modern facilities host both high school and elementary/junior high classes.
With about sixty students, we pride ourselves on a warm and supportive atmosphere. Situated in the long rural municipality of Siikajoki, our school provides a unique blend of academic excellence and close-to-nature experiences.
Our curriculum goes beyond the basics, allowing students to choose from elective courses like riding, hiking, and study trips, both in Finland and abroad. You can learn camping and survival skills in the Finnish Lapland during hiking trips or explore riding and horse grooming at the Ruukki Nature and Equestrian Centre.
We offer to all of our students:
- The regular high school courses but also riding, hiking, and study trips
- School supplies and learning materials, including a laptop
- Free school lunch (mon-fri)
- Freetime worker (adult, educated youth worker)
- Tutoring at school and help with getting to know our area, finding your free time hobbies, a visit to a pharmacy, grocery store and other services, helping your apartment finished for you etc.
At Siikajoki High School, we believe in a well-rounded education that prepares students for their future studies and work life. Whether you enjoy cross-country skiing, ice skating, or riding, our natural surroundings offer plenty of activities. Plus, there are free weekly riding sessions at the Ruukki Nature and Equestrian Centre.
We're strategically located, with Raahe just 34km away and Oulu 62km away. The school has good railway connections to Oulu, making it easy to access. For those considering higher education, we have partnerships with Oulu University and the University of Eastern Finland, providing opportunities for high school students to explore university courses.
We understand the challenges international students may face, so we offer assistance in finding affordable shared apartments close to the school. The cost is around 350-450 euros per month. Additionally, we provide school supplies, including a laptop, and offer free school lunches on weekdays.
To make your transition smoother, our dedicated freetime worker, an educated youth worker, helps you settle in. From getting to know the area to finding hobbies and navigating daily life, they're here to assist. Also our teachers are there for you to privide any necessary help with your studies what you might need during your journey at our school.
